Game SummaryGoing on a five goal run early in the second quarter, Utah was able to clench the close 12-11 game over the Michigan State Spartans. The Ute’s win was bolstered by freshman Alex Wee’s impressive debut as a first time goalie. Wee’s four saves in the first quarter primed the Utes for a spectacular comeback in the second quarter. Leading that comeback was sophomore Pat Guinn who scored three unanswered goals in the second quarter. In the second half juniors Matt Qualey and Jon Owens fulfilled their roles as team captains with Owens putting in 5 goals and Matt Qualey scoring 5 points. On the defensive end Clint English, Grant Matsura, Tony Bickmore and Jake Vadeboncoeur kept the Spartan’s ball on the ground by their physical defense and aggressive slides. Despite cold weather and personnel changes the Utes elevated their game and pulled off a huge win against the visiting Spartans.
